Vennilave - Sagar Alias Jacky

Just a couple of days after the Hindi releases, here comes a pleasant surprise. Vennilave, the title of the post could lead to the conclusion that it is a Tamil song that I am going to post about but it is a Malayalam song. The title of the movie is Sagar Alias Jacky and it has a huge star cast with Mohan Lal, Bhavana and Shobana in lead roles. Music has been composed by Gopi Sundar who as far as I understand is a famous young composer in Malayalam. M.G.Sreekumar's association with Shreya continues with him being her co-singer for this song. Lets get to Shreya's 4th Malayalam song.

The song is a very beautiful melody but with a slight western tinge to it. The percussions at the start of the song made me wonder if I had, by mistake, played Ghajini(Ah, now I need to say which Ghajini. Of course, the Tamil one). The percussions are almost exactly the same as the one in Suttum Vizhi Sudare. Now, you have a very good idea of how the song begins but the similarity ends there. Shreya takes over in a slightly shrill voice for the first two lines. You can listen to the usual Shreya from the lines Nenjil. I really need to say about her diction in this song. She seems to be singing lines like Pozhiyum Nizhaliin... with utmost ease. Now, I really mean utmost ease. M.G.Sreekumar sings just a couple of lines but he complements Shreya well in this song. One got the feeling that he was out of his comfort zone in Mere Dholna, maybe because of the scale but not in this one. The song has just one stanza and runs for about four and a half minutes. Gopi Sundar has not used too many instruments but has the little he has used very well with some Veena pieces coming first to my mind. The only thing I didn't like about this song was the Hai Samundar(or whatever it is) sung now and then by the harmony singers right from the start of the song.

This is one of those songs that is likely to make it big considering that is really beautiful. Don't forget, it is part of a big movie. So the job becomes easier. Personally, I would put this behind the songs from Banaras but that only means that they were brilliant and in no way says that this song is not good. I am sure this would be part of my playlists for a long long time. It really gives me a feeling of listening to a Tamil song with so many words that I can understand. Thats the reason I mentioned about the perfect diction and with ease. Maybe someone needs to confirm this for the entire song.

A real beautiful song, don't miss this.

ps : I guess the rain at Eden Park played a part in me posting this as quickly as I did. Apparently its still raining as I finish the post. Not very good news.
