Kyun from Kambakkht Ishq

This post shouldn't come as a surprise for most of you. This Akshay Kumar starrer, I am sure, is eagerly awaited by many. Shreya's association in Akshay's movies have all been great successes be it Bhool Bhullaiya, or Singh is Kinng, or Chandni Chowk. So, in that aspect this is pretty much guaranteed to be good. Add to that, the presence of Kareena Kapoor (another success story for Shreya) and you almost feel that this surely must be a good song. Does it do more than that? Does it fall behind expectations?

The title of the song is Kyun (composed by Anu Malik) and there are two versions - one is a duet with Shaan and the other is a solo. In that aspect, this is another Kudinotave. Just like in that post, I will neglect the duet and describe only the solo version. Thats definitely more interesting for Shreya fans. The mushy, romantic number begins with a guitar piece that plays the tune of the song which is then joined by a few violins followed by that sound that borders between the sound of irritation and the sound associated with lizards. This effect, incidentally, occurs a number of times in the song. The first thing that you could say about the song is that it is a clear winner. Not so much in terms of being a novel masterpiece (it did remind me a little, just a little of U Me Aur Hum) but in using the simple formula in a judicious way. The tune is a very catchy one - one that requires just one or two listens before you start humming the tune. I can't catch too many instruments but the guitar really has been used pretty well. This is one of those songs which you will like but can't describe why. And thats what I am going through as I write.

Overall, I guess Anu Malik has done exactly what is required in an Akshay Kumar starrer and chosen Shreya to sing the song. A sure chartbuster for me and a definite favorite for me in the near future but just get the feeling it can't get to the heights of Teri Ore and even Tere Naina but nevertheless a hit song on offer.

ps : Don't miss the previous solo post
